What do you want for Christmas? He probably
thought that it seemed like a simple enough request of a young boy.
But I think my uncle "Iwen", actually his last name, but that was
how everyone addressed him. I think I was quite a bit older
before I figured out that he actually had a first name. . . . . . .
Oh, right, back to the question about Christmas.
And my reply.
While
I never really knew at that age that uncle "Iwen" was financially
successful, I kind of expected that it was true, and even if that
wasn't - what the heck go for broke.
So I made a perfectly reasonable request for a recently minted teenager.
I asked for a new Ferrari.I
hadn't really allowed for the fact that I didn't have a drivers
license or for that matter wasn't old enough to drive, And of
course that Ferraris cost a lot of money
It turned out that
"Iwen" had been a successful both in business and as an investor and
valued hard work and making your own way in life.
Christmas ArrivesAnd so does the FerrariAnd so, when Christmas came, I opened a box from Italy and my dreams were fulfilled as "Iwen" gave me my brand new Ferrari.
Not just any Ferrari but a Ferrari TestaRossa, purely meant for racing.
Just not exactly the way I expected.
In
the small blue box from Italy marked "Boncompagni Feilio, Venezia,
Piazza S. Marco 130-131, Telef. 24-563" was my new Ferrari.
Red
just the way a Ferrari should be, but a little bit smaller than I had
expected.
A
model Ferrari TestaRossa was nestled down inside the
box. Around it was taped a one dollar bill. Beneath the
model and the dollar was a note from "Iwen" telling me how to invest
the dollar and ultimately accumulate enough money to buy my own
Ferrari. - LETTER FOLLOWS:

And now the rest of the storyYou may be curious about my investing success and how quickly I accumulated the money to buy my own Ferrari.
Did
I take the talents with which I was entrusted and multiply them (and
get a cool car as part of the process) OR did I bury my talents in the
ground. Well it turns out, I was the burying kind and the Ferrari
never materialized (nor did speeding tickets and astronomical insurance
premiums).
I still have the box, the model Ferrari, and the dollar.
And memories.
And a life lesson.
This it is up to each of us to pay our own way in life.
Thanks - "Iwen"
