Maintenance and Repair

After the initial purchase, I spent $2,000 getting the car into great shape!

Purchased on 7-22-2003 from the original owner (a woman in her 50's), I have driven this GT about 1,000 miles per year. There were only about 5 or 6 times I drove the car when there was snow on the ground.  The car is hand washed and waxed except for December when the car is machine washed with the best "super" wash complete with under car wash, rust proof, and wax applied before hibernating for the winter.

INITAL PREPARATION OF THE CAR
After I purchased the car, I had the car analyzed by Toyota and the "top" taken off the engine to inspect for sludge.  There was a little varnish but all was OK.

I then spent an additional $1,400 to get the car to "all Toyota" and in as good a shape as possible.  The initial work included:

*Timing belt
*ALL V-belts and other belts on the engine
*Water pump
*Antifreeze
*Full transmission service
*Full front differential service
*Power steering service (machine flush)
*Fuel Induction service
*Replaced day/night mirror on windshield

NEXT PHASE OF PREPARING THE CAR
The next major expense was another $675 for the following services:
*Replace oil and transmission pan gaskets
*Replaced all spark plugs and spark plug wires
*Other services and machine polishing by Toyota

ONGOING MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR

Any issues that occured across time were handled promptly.  Any repairs that were needed were performed by Toyota technicians. The battery was replaced with a Toyota True Start battery on 3-11-2008 including anti-corrosion pads.

Clean car - minor issues: For its age it would probably be considered in "clean" condition with minor blemishes.  There is one minor 1-2" dent (mainly out of sight) at the lowest point in front of the right rear tire in the wheel well.  There is a tear in the side of the drivers seat  where the seat belt caught it.  I have a quote from a restorer to take the driver's seat out of the car and replace the torn piece with new leather matching the original.   Age explains the rest - while original, the  floor mats do show wear.

Recent maintenance: 04-27-2011: The GT just had an oil change, tire rotation and 23 point inspection.  All 23 points "passed" but there was a suggestion the engine air filter was starting to get dirty.  I need to check and replace it if needed.
